The short answer

Inxmail leads on integrations (mean 6.8 to Klaviyo's 5.8; five judges lean Inxmail), list data control (5.7 to 4.7; five lean Inxmail), sovereignty (2.7 to 1.8; four lean Inxmail) and, narrowly, deliverability (4.0 to 3.8; two lean Inxmail, one Klaviyo, three tie). Klaviyo leads consent and proof (5.2 to 3.5; six lean Klaviyo) and pricing transparency (2.0 to 0.5; six lean Klaviyo), and sits ahead on campaign and automation (6.0 to 5.2; three lean Klaviyo, three tie). Judge-level totals split too: the data protection officer, the integrator and the skeptic score Inxmail higher, the deliverability engineer scores Klaviyo higher, and the CRM manager ties at 5. Sovereignty as captured — Inxmail: German legal entity, EU-only data residency, US Cloud Act subprocessor exposure; Klaviyo: US legal entity, EU residency optional, subprocessor exposure unknown. No overall winner: the lean differs by judge and by criterion.

Choose Inxmail if

  • You need documented bidirectional export of recipient responses, delivery information and subscription states into your own warehouse or CRM — five judges lean Inxmail on list data control (means 5.7 to 4.7).
  • Your stack centres on Shopware, OXID, Salesforce or Microsoft Dynamics and you want those named connections with public SOAP and REST API documentation — five judges lean Inxmail on integrations (means 6.8 to 5.8).
  • You need EU-only data residency and a German contracting entity — the sovereignty attributes list Inxmail's jurisdiction as DE and residency as EU-only, and four judges lean Inxmail on sovereignty (means 2.7 to 1.8).
  • Your sign-off runs through a data protection officer or a skeptical procurement review — their weighted totals are 4.4 to 3.8 and 4.3 to 3.3 in Inxmail's favour.

Choose Klaviyo if

  • You need real-time segmentation with predictive values such as churn risk and lifetime value plus more than 60 prebuilt flows — three judges lean Klaviyo on campaign and automation (means 6.0 to 5.2).
  • You need a timestamped, version-labelled consent log — six judges lean Klaviyo on consent and proof (means 5.2 to 3.5).
  • Published pricing information carries weight in your evaluation — six judges lean Klaviyo on pricing transparency (means 2.0 to 0.5).
  • Your evaluation is led by a deliverability engineer who credits the published guide and the 30-day dedicated-IP warm-up — their weighted total is 5.2 to Inxmail's 4.6.

Read this comparison as one judge. Each weighs the same scores by what they care about.

The Data Protection Officer

Signs off the tool that holds named people and records what each of them opened. Wants double opt-in with a proof that survives a complaint, tracking that can be switched off, and an answer to where the behavioural data lives that does not require a Schrems II argument.

Criterion by criterion

Campaigns & automation

Inxmail

A drag-and-drop editor, reusable templates, a visual workflow builder with templates for common sequences, and segmentation by language, location and purchasing behaviour with dynamic content per group are documented, and transactional sends are triggered from order events. We found no public information on A/B testing, send-time optimisation, holdout measurement or testing that reports significance, so this sits in the middle of the range rather than above it.

Klaviyo

Segmentation is the documented strength: real-time segments on demographics, browsing behaviour, purchase history and custom properties with unlimited conditions, plus predictive and AI-generated segments, alongside 60+ prebuilt flows and 150+ email templates on a drag-and-drop editor. We found no public information on A/B testing with significance reporting, journey branching on behaviour and data, or send-time optimisation, so this sits above basic list-and-welcome tooling but well short of a fully evidenced journey platform.

Deliverability infrastructure

Inxmail

Sending on the vendor's own servers, automatic handling and tracking of delivery errors, a stated spam-rate requirement below 0.3 percent, and a deliverability team that diagnoses and eliminates spam-folder causes are all documented. We found no public information on SPF, DKIM or DMARC setup guidance, dedicated IP options with warm-up, complaint-loop handling or inbox-placement testing, so the authentication layer rests on a generic promise of authentication rather than documented protocols.

Klaviyo

There is a real public deliverability guide covering bounce types and where they are found in the product, spam traps and blacklists, sending infrastructure and the pros and cons of double opt-in, plus guidance that one complaint per 1,000 messages is where mailbox providers consider a sender elevated and a documented 30-day dedicated-IP warm-up. We found no public information on SPF, DKIM or DMARC setup documentation, automatic hard-bounce suppression, or complaint-loop handling, which is what would raise this further.

Consent, proof & tracking limits

Inxmail

Tracking and reporting are documented as optional throughout, and on the SMTP relay product open and click rate tracking is even listed as an optional service rather than included — that is exactly the switch I look for before signing off. Double opt-in appears only inside integration descriptions for Shopware and Meta Lead Ads, and we found no public information on the consent record itself, its source and wording, unsubscribe mechanics, retention rules or the handling of access and erasure requests, so the proof that survives a complaint is not evidenced.

Klaviyo

But we found no public information on double opt-in being offered as a documented default (the deliverability guide only weighs its pros and cons), on open and click tracking being limitable or switchable off, on pixel-free sending, or on preference-centre granularity and retention rules for inactive subscribers.

List ownership, import & exit

Inxmail

Automated CSV import, bidirectional synchronisation that stores recipient responses and delivery information in the customer's campaign management tool or data warehouse, subscription and unsubscription state flowing to CRM systems, and real-time API transfer of recipient data and statistics are documented. We found no public information on documented deletion of a subscriber across all records, on export of campaigns and templates, or on any export throttling, which is why I stop short of the higher marks.

Klaviyo

Exit hygiene is contractually documented: all customer personal data is deleted within 90 days of termination with return on request, individual profiles can be found, exported or deleted from the unified profile store, and the deletion log doubles as evidence of compliance. We found no public information on bulk export of the full list with custom attributes, engagement history or unsubscribe state, on campaigns and templates leaving in open formats, or on migration tooling in either direction — the parts that keep the list portable while the sender is still a customer.

Integrations & API

Inxmail

SOAP and REST APIs usable independently without a partner agreement, a Commerce API that triggers events and returns transaction results, mailings created and sent directly from external applications, and a broad maintained catalogue spanning Shopify, Magento, Shopware, Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics, Make, Zapier and n8n are documented. We found no public information on webhooks with retries, documented rate limits, a sandbox environment, or API versioning with a deprecation policy.

Klaviyo

The surface is broad: more than 350 prebuilt integrations, a native and maintained Shopify partnership claimed across 117,000+ shared customers, and developer tooling spanning APIs, webhooks, SDKs and warehouse syncs. It falls short of the top tier because rate limits are set and enforced at the vendor's sole discretion rather than documented, we found no public information on a sandbox or webhook retries, and the API terms reserve the right to modify or stop supporting the APIs at any time without notice.

European sovereignty

Inxmail

A German contracting entity is evidenced on the captured pages, but we found no public information on where subscriber data and tracking data are hosted, on ownership, or on any subprocessor in the chain behind the send. Until the hosting location and the full subprocessor list are published, I cannot answer where the behavioural data lives without an argument I would rather not have to make, and I weigh that heavily here.

Klaviyo

The contracting entity is Klaviyo, Inc. of Boston under Massachusetts law, and the data processing agreement authorises storage and processing wherever Klaviyo or its subprocessors maintain facilities — worldwide, with no regional lock — so behavioural data on EU subscribers is processed in the United States. Transfers rest on the Data Privacy Framework certification and standard contractual clauses with Irish governing law, transfer impact assessment support, a stated willingness to challenge FISA 702 and Executive Order 12333 requests, and a referenced published subprocessor list; that is the complete US-vendor transfer package, and it still requires a Schrems II argument to survive — we found no public information on any EU hosting or residency option.

Pricing transparency

Inxmail

No price for any tier, module or add-on appears on the captured pages, and the route to a number is a demo request and a free trial. The SMTP relay page does state what is included and what remains an optional service, but we found no public information on contact-tier prices, send limits, overage rates, feature boundaries by tier or VAT treatment.

Klaviyo

The free tier is fully computable — up to 250 active profiles, 500 emails per month, mobile messaging worth 5 $ per month and 10,000 Composer credits — but the paid tiers are described only as scaling on contact count and channels used, with enterprise on custom quote. We found no public information on any paid price figure, overage rate, feature boundary or VAT treatment, so a buyer cannot compute an invoice for a real list size from the captured pages.
