The written short answer is being updated after a re-evaluation. The scores below are current.

Read this comparison as one judge. Each weighs the same scores by what they care about.

The Security Officer

Wants to know what the vendor can see, and reads "encrypted" as a question rather than an answer. Asks which meetings get end-to-end encryption, what stops working when they do, who holds the keys, and who can walk into a meeting with a link.

Microsoft Teams

Criterion by criterion

The meeting itself

alfaview

Capacity is published per tier (100/300/500 per room) with 50 breakout rooms, simultaneous screen sharing, polling and whiteboard — that clears what most teams need. But the evidence is silent on host moderation, waiting rooms, and behaviour on a constrained connection; I cannot tell you who can be ejected from a call or whether it degrades gracefully.

Microsoft Teams

The captured pages publish capacity of 300 participants and 30-hour meeting duration across all three plans, with meetings, events, phone and rooms named as solution areas and apps usable before, during and after a meeting. But we found no public information on screen sharing, breakout rooms, host moderation or how the call behaves on a constrained connection, so scale is documented while the meeting's everyday mechanics are not.

Encryption & meeting access

alfaview

"Verschlüsselung nach BSI-Richtlinien (TLS)" for data, transport and server disks is the entire story — no end-to-end encryption, no key handling, no statement of what the vendor can technically see. Public test rooms admit anyone without registration and no lobby, passcode or host admission control is evidenced anywhere, so meeting access rests on link possession; the "US backdoor access impossible" claim is marketing, not mechanism.

Microsoft Teams

One comparison-table line — data encryption for meetings, chats, calls and files — with no mechanism, no key custody and no statement of which meetings could be end-to-end encrypted or what that costs in features; the word alone answers nothing. Meanwhile the privacy statement reserves the right to use my data to develop and train the vendor's AI models and lists Teams communication metadata (time, date, participants) among what it collects, and we found no public information on lobbies, passcodes, host-controlled admission or SSO-gated joining.

Reach & accessibility

alfaview

Browser joining in Edge/Chrome/Firefox/Safari plus apps on every platform is real, and dial-in exists but as an unpriced add-on with no numbers listed. No captions, no accessibility statement, no low-bandwidth documentation; the only no-registration joining evidenced is their public test rooms, so guest access to real meetings is unconfirmed.

Microsoft Teams

Dial-in is genuinely evidenced: a global dial-in number as a free add-on, 3,000 calling-plan minutes for the US, UK and Canada and 1,200 elsewhere, multiple PSTN connectivity options and certified phones and room systems from named partners, plus live captions in over 30 languages and translation into up to 41 with a Premium license. We found no public information on joining by browser without an install, guest access without an account, keyboard and screen-reader operation, or behaviour on a poor connection.

Recordings, retention & admin control

alfaview

The data-minimisation is genuine: live streams, chat and screen shares are not stored at all, recordings are local, and transcripts are promised not to train speech models. But the governance layer is a void — nothing on who may record, whether participants are notified, retention rules or organisation-wide policies; a works council has nothing to switch off because nothing is documented.

Microsoft Teams

We found no public information on who may record a meeting, whether participants are told, where recordings are stored, how long they live, or what an administrator can switch off; the only adjacent evidence is deletion of all subscription data on cancellation and general administration of video calling from the Teams admin center. A recording is personal data about everyone in the room, and on these pages its governance is undocumented.

Integrations & deployment

alfaview

One calendar suite (Outlook/M365), an "API Ja, inkludiert" with no documentation behind it, MSI packages and 2FA. No SSO, no SCIM, no webhooks, no room systems and no self-hosted option — identity integration stays in the vendor's world and deployment is cloud-only.

Microsoft Teams

The developer surface is broad and documented — Microsoft Graph REST APIs with SDKs, change notifications with Azure Event Hubs, Teams bots, PowerShell provisioning and Bicep templates — and room systems come from named certified partners. But we found no public information on calendar integration in the captured pages, on SCIM provisioning, or on any on-premises or private-cloud deployment; identity runs on the vendor's own Entra ID.

European sovereignty

alfaview

The German story is consistent: alfaview GmbH registered in Karlsruhe (HRB 730903), German datacentres, ISO 27001 and a BSI label claimed. But no subprocessor list is published, the pipeline could not confirm residency, and the imprint quietly reveals alfatraining GmbH as technical provider of the website — the chain is asserted, not laid out.

Microsoft Teams

The privacy statement says personal data may be stored and processed in your region, in the United States and in any other jurisdiction where Microsoft, its affiliates, subsidiaries or service providers operate facilities — a global-processing reservation, not a residency commitment, from a US contracting entity. Subprocessors are unnamed beyond controlled affiliates and vendors acting on the vendor's behalf, the claimed safeguard is the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, and the only European element we found is Microsoft Ireland Operations Limited as a contact address; this buyer weighs that heavily.

Pricing transparency

alfaview

Three tiers with EUR/month figures, VAT excluded, billing periods, and per-room capacity published — and rooms are licensed per capacity rather than per head, which makes the maths simple. Dial-in and >500-participant rooms sit in unpriced add-ons and enterprise is "Auf Anfrage": computable for a standard deployment, not for one that needs the phone or the big room.

Microsoft Teams

Per-user prices are public with billing period, auto-renewal and VAT treatment stated — Teams Essentials at 3,50 € per user per month, Business Basic at 6,07 €, Teams Premium as an 8,70 € add-on — alongside capacity limits, per-plan storage allowances, dial-in minutes by region and a 7-day proportional refund. What stops me computing the annual invoice from these pages alone: toll-free and pay-per-minute charges sit in a prepaid Communications Credits wallet with no published rates, and there is no calculator for the total.
