The short answer

Conceptboard and Miro split this bench rather than resolve it. Miro leads four criteria: design and prototyping (mean 4.8 against Conceptboard's 3.0, six judges lean Miro), collaboration and handoff (6.2 against 4.0, six lean Miro), brand asset governance (4.8 against 3.3, five lean Miro, one tie) and AI and content rights (6.2 against 0.0, six lean Miro). Conceptboard leads sovereignty at 7.8 against 5.0, six judges leaning Conceptboard — its legal entity jurisdiction is DE with data residency EU only, against Miro's US jurisdiction, EU optional residency and US CLOUD Act reach subprocessor exposure — and its file ownership and portability mean of 5.2 sits above Miro's 4.7, two judges leaning Conceptboard and four tied. Pricing transparency is level at 6.5 for both, one judge leaning each way. Weighted totals favor Miro for the product designer, frontend engineer, brand marketer and skeptic; the data protection officer has Conceptboard ahead, 6 to 5.5.

Choose Conceptboard if

  • You need data residency fixed in the EU with no selectable alternative: Conceptboard's data residency attribute reads EU only; Miro's reads EU optional.
  • Your data protection officer makes the final call: that judge's weighted total stands at Conceptboard 6 to Miro 5.5.
  • You must run the tool fully air-gapped on your own infrastructure: Conceptboard's verdict describes a self-hosted Data Center Edition that can run fully air-gapped.
  • Your legal review asks for German governing law and certifications: Conceptboard's verdict cites German governing law, hosting stated in Germany on named regions, ISO 27001, 27017 and 27018 certifications, and a published DPA.
  • Ownership and export of your board content decides the purchase: the file ownership and portability means read 5.2 to 4.7 for Conceptboard, two judges leaning Conceptboard and none leaning Miro.

Choose Miro if

  • Your team prototypes and iterates inside the tool daily: design and prototyping means run 4.8 to 3.0 in Miro's favor, six judges lean Miro.
  • You need AI features with written terms on content rights: AI and content rights means 6.2 to 0.0, six judges lean Miro, and the captured pages for Conceptboard describe no AI features.
  • Collaboration and handoff across roles is the core of your workflow: means 6.2 to 4.0, six judges lean Miro.
  • Brand asset governance counts in your decision: five judges lean Miro there, 4.8 to 3.3, with one tie.
  • Your priorities track the product designer, frontend engineer, brand marketer or skeptic: those weighted totals run Miro's way — 5.5 to 4.5, 5.2 to 4.6, 5.1 to 4.5 and 5.7 to 5.2.

The Brand Marketer

Keeps the brand consistent across twelve sales offices that make their own flyers. Wants locked templates non-designers can use, guidelines inside the tool, licence and expiry dates on every stock image, and a clear answer on whether a generated image may go on a trade-fair stand.

Criterion by criterion

Design, prototyping & design systems

Conceptboard

This is an online whiteboard with a pre-built template library, team templates and marketing templates for briefings, mood boards and planning, so it is a canvas teams lay things out on. We found no public information on reusable components, shared styles, tokens or prototyping, which is what would keep flyer layouts consistent across my twelve offices.

Miro

The infinite canvas, 29 prototype templates and the AI prototype generator give us clickable, shareable prototypes, and Brand Center pushes our colours and font styling onto boards and presentations automatically. But I found no public information on shared component libraries, tokens, variants or auto layout, so this is templates-and-prototypes level rather than a governed design system.

Collaboration, review & developer handoff

Conceptboard

Real-time or asynchronous co-editing with comments, annotations and tasks is documented, alongside role and permission management, collaboration with agencies and freelancers, board history, an approval process and named integrations with Microsoft Teams, Confluence, Webex, Google Drive, Dropbox and OneDrive; the terms also mention programmatic access via APIs. We found no public information on an inspect or developer view with measurements and asset export, or on integrations with issue trackers and code tools.

Miro

Real-time co-editing, @mentions pinned to images, and comment, react and vote directly on a shared prototype cover review, and the developer handoff is real: REST APIs on every plan, MCP integrations with Confluence, Jira and Claude Code, and a copy-to-Figma path with elements staying fully editable. I found no public information on guest reviewers without a paid seat, version restore, or an inspect view with measurements and asset export.

Brand assets & governance

Conceptboard

The Advanced plan lists team templates, custom branding, an approval process and advanced admin controls, and role-based access control is described — a reasonable start for offices producing their own material. We found no public information on a central brand kit with logos, colours and fonts, on templates that can be locked for non-designers, on brand guidelines inside the tool, or on licence, rights and expiry metadata for assets.

Miro

Brand Center is the centrepiece: company fonts, colours, styles and templates in one place, one-click restyling of boards and presentations in line with the brand, custom templates carrying our visual guidelines, and admin insights monitoring template usage. What I cannot find is the one thing my twelve sales offices need — locking brand elements or restricting who edits templates — and we found no public information on licence, rights or expiry metadata on assets, approval workflows, or guidelines published inside the tool rather than as a fill-in template.

Files, formats & portability

Conceptboard

The terms state users must secure their data before the end of a contract and that the vendor is entitled to irretrievably delete it, while also stating Conceptboard claims no ownership rights in user content; a self-hosted Data Center Edition runs on the customer's own infrastructure, in a fully air-gapped mode if needed. We found no public information on export formats such as PNG, PDF or SVG, on a documented file format, or on bulk export of a team's files.

Miro

The terms promise export of customer content during the subscription or within 30 days after it ends, customers retain all rights in their content, prototype elements copy into Figma fully editable, and board data converts to tables for export via a marketplace app. I found no public information on vector or PDF export, bulk export of a team's files, a documented file format, or transfer of a removed user's files to the organisation.

AI features & rights to the work

Conceptboard

We found no public information on AI features, on whether customer content trains any model, on admin controls for AI, or on the rights to generated output — so I cannot answer my trade-fair question about whether a generated image may go on a stand. The homepage, pricing page and terms of use we read describe no such features.

Miro

The AI terms put output ownership in writing — the customer owns the output — so a generated campaign image is ours to put on a trade-fair stand in principle, and enterprise plans get withdrawable consent before inputs train the models, with admins able to gate AI per feature, block sensitive prompts, choose providers or use their own API key. However, indemnification explicitly excludes IP claims over generated output and the vendor does not warrant output will not infringe, and I found no public information on labelling, content credentials or stock and template licences stated per asset type.

European sovereignty

Conceptboard

Conceptboard Cloud Service GmbH is a German company under German law, hosting is in Germany on named regions — AWS Germany included, IONOS Germany and StackIT Germany for an additional fee — and a self-hosted, air-gapped Data Center Edition plus ISO 27001, 27017 and 27018 certifications are published. The privacy policy names subprocessors with locations and purposes, including Zendesk in the USA for help-centre hosting under EU standard contractual clauses; we found no public information on the company's ownership.

Miro

EU data residency is listed as included on every plan, an EU representative stands in Amsterdam (RealtimeBoard BV), and the terms point to a DPA and Data Privacy Framework certification. But the contracting entity is RealtimeBoard Inc. dba Miro of San Francisco under California law, the AI features may share limited data with Microsoft, and I found no public information on a published subprocessor list with locations.

Pricing transparency

Conceptboard

Per-seat prices are public with billing periods and features per plan — "5€ / user / month Starter", "From 10€ / user / month Advanced", "From 14€ / user / month Corporate & Government" — VAT treatment is stated ("All prices are subject to value added tax at the statutory state"), SSO is shown as an additional fee, and the terms cover auto-renewal and a 90-day notice period for non-card payments. We found no public information on viewer or guest seat pricing or on how added seats are billed, and the top plan appears as a from-price without an itemised feature list.

Miro

Starter at €8/month per member and Business at €20/month per member, both billed yearly, are published with a comparison table naming where SAML SSO, audit logs, AI credits and the Enterprise Guard add-on begin, and the terms state the 30-day payment window, a 1.5% per month late charge, and 12-month auto-renewal with 90-day non-renewal notice. Enterprise pricing is custom, and I found no public information on viewer or guest billing, seat true-ups or VAT treatment.
