The short answer

The benches split by use case. iSpring Learn leads on compliance training (7.3 vs 5.5, lean 6–0) and sovereignty (5.3 vs 4.0, lean 5–0, 1 tie), its verdict weighing storage in Ireland and Germany for EEA, EU, Swiss and UK personal data and an on-premise edition against a UAE contracting entity and unnamed AI subprocessors. TalentLMS leads on courses and content (7.2 vs 6.3, lean 5–0, 1 tie) with WCAG 2.1, cmi5 and LTI 1.3, and on integration and portability (6.5 vs 6.2, lean 2–0, 4 ties); its verdict places hosting on AWS in N. Virginia, USA, and we found no public information on an EU hosting option. Reporting and codetermination (5.3 vs 5.5) and pricing transparency (5.3 vs 5.2) are near-ties with mixed leans. Weighted totals favor iSpring Learn for the compliance officer, customer-academy lead, works-council member, IT admin and skeptic; the onboarding lead prefers TalentLMS (6 vs 5.8).

Choose iSpring LMS (iSpring Learn) if

  • You need compliance training under named regulatory regimes, with recurring retraining that automatically re-enrolls learners when a certificate expires or a course version is republished, plus an exportable audit pack with immutable version history — compliance training means 7.3 for iSpring Learn vs 5.5 for TalentLMS, with 6 judges leaning iSpring Learn and 0 leaning TalentLMS.
  • You must store EEA, EU, Swiss or UK personal data in-region, or need an on-premise edition — iSpring Learn's verdict states storage in Ireland and Germany plus an on-premise edition, weighed against a UAE contracting entity, iSpring Group FZCO, and unnamed AI subprocessors; sovereignty means 5.3 vs 4.0, with 5 judges leaning iSpring Learn and 1 tie.
  • Your team runs customer academies through branded external portals with HRIS-triggered enrollment and sequenced learning tracks — onboarding and academies means 6.3 vs 6.0, with 2 judges leaning iSpring Learn and 4 ties, and the customer-academy lead's weighted total is 6.6 vs 6.1.
  • Your works council member and IT admin both score the shortlist — the works-council member's weighted total is 5.8 for iSpring Learn vs 5.3 for TalentLMS, and the IT admin's is 6.5 vs 5.6.

Choose TalentLMS if

  • You need WCAG 2.1 conformance, cmi5 import, LTI 1.3, AI authoring or 40+ language translation — TalentLMS's verdict documents these under courses and content, mean 7.2 vs 6.3 with 5 judges leaning TalentLMS, 0 leaning iSpring Learn and 1 tie, while we found no public information on WCAG conformance or cmi5/LTI support for iSpring Learn.
  • Your stack needs SAML, OpenID Connect or LDAP sign-on, a REST API, HR connectors and export of users, progress and courses — integration and portability means 6.5 vs 6.2, with 2 judges leaning TalentLMS, 0 leaning iSpring Learn and 4 ties.
  • Your rollout is owned by the onboarding lead — that judge's weighted total is 6 for TalentLMS vs 5.8 for iSpring Learn.
  • Your requirements list skips works-council-grade reporting — reporting and codetermination means 5.5 for TalentLMS vs 5.3 for iSpring Learn, with 2 judges leaning TalentLMS, 1 leaning iSpring Learn and 3 ties.

Read this comparison as one judge. Each weighs the same scores by what they care about.

The Onboarding Lead

Head of people development at a manufacturer with 1,400 employees across three plants in Germany and the Czech Republic, a third of them on shifts and without a company email address. Hires around 200 people a year, apprentices included. Wants new starters enrolled the day HR creates them, a path that works on a phone in German, Czech and English, tasks for the manager and the buddy, and to stop chasing completions by spreadsheet.

This judge's pick

Criterion by criterion

Courses, learning paths & content standards

iSpring LMS (iSpring Learn)

The core is well documented for a three-plant rollout: a built-in editor with video, articles, quizzes and interactive assignments, SCORM 1.2/2004 with xAPI and AICC import, sequenced learning tracks that unlock the next course only after the previous one is completed, classroom and webinar sessions, automatic certificates, a native iOS and Android app with offline mode, and a portal localised into 30 languages with AI translation of course content. We found no public information on WCAG accessibility conformance, question pools or branching paths, and the AI authoring is described without the model or its data use explained; cmi5 and LTI appear in the knowledge pages only as background on standards, not as documented support in this LMS.

TalentLMS

The documented picture is strong for an L&D team: a drag-and-drop builder for video, documents and presentations, native SCORM 1.2, xAPI and cmi5 import plus LTI 1.3, learning paths whose courses unlock sequentially, WCAG 2.1 conformance stated, an AI translator covering 40+ languages, a 1,000-course ready-made library, and export in CSV, XLS and SCORM so our content could move with us. We found no public information on offline access in the mobile app, on adaptive or branching paths, or on question pools as such, which keeps it just below the top level.

Compliance training, recertification & audit trail

iSpring LMS (iSpring Learn)

As the one who signs off the annual safety instructions, this is the strongest part of the file: role-based rules enrol people automatically, deadlines drive automated reminders, recurring retraining and certificate expiry are monitored with automatic re-enrolment when a course version changes, and every completion is logged permanently with an immutable version history showing which version each employee completed and on which date. The audit pack — completion reports, individual transcripts and timestamped logs filterable by role, department and compliance status, exportable for inspectors — plus named regimes such as OSHA, HIPAA, AML, FDA and HSE goes most of the way to inspection-proof. We found no public information on e-signatures or attestations, on retention configurable per regulation, or on validation for a named regulated use.

TalentLMS

Auto-assignment by role, location or hire date with reminders sent automatically before deadlines, compliance training schedules, certificates generated on completion, automatically tracked attendance for Teams, Zoom, GoTo and BigBlueButton sessions, and an exportable timeline capturing every user action cover the daily mandatory-training loop I run today on spreadsheets. We found no public information on escalation to the manager, on course versioning showing who completed which version, on certificate expiry as such, or on named regimes such as German occupational safety instruction — the parts an inspector would ask us to prove.

Onboarding, extended enterprise & academies

iSpring LMS (iSpring Learn)

The HR trigger is exactly what I want: when a new hire is added to the HR system their details are sent to the LMS and they are immediately enrolled in onboarding and compliance courses, with mentors and supervisors assigned, action-based checklists and sequenced learning tracks, and external audiences get branded portals, built-in e-commerce and automatic enrolment after a Shopify purchase. For my shift workers two things are undocumented: login without a company email address, and external self-registration; we also found no public information on manager-specific task lists, tenants with separate content and reporting, or subscriptions, bundles and invoices for course sales.

TalentLMS

HR-triggered enrollment is documented for real: the BambooHR connector says new hires are instantly enrolled, ADP Workforce Now automates learner creation, and Sage People and TalentHR sync employee data and auto-assign courses; branches with tailored content, white-labelling, self-registration and course selling via PayPal, Stripe, Shopify or WooCommerce cover partners and customers. We found no public information on manager or buddy task checklists for onboarding journeys, and none on login for frontline staff without a company email address — with a third of my people on shifts and email-less, that gap decides this level.

Reporting, learner data & works council

iSpring LMS (iSpring Learn)

The day-to-day side is covered: supervisors see only their own department with real-time individual and team statistics, reports on mandatory training, time spent, attempts and answer breakdowns can be filtered, customised and scheduled, and custom roles with permissions exist. For the works council conversation I have little to bring: we found no public information on aggregated or pseudonymised reporting, on switching off time or score tracking, on automatic deletion after a set period, or on a codetermination guide or works agreement template; retention is described only in general terms in the privacy policy, a data processing agreement is offered, but configurable deletion rules are not described.

TalentLMS

Custom and scheduled reports with live shareable links, a training matrix per team and department, user types controlling who may view reports, plus documented deletion on request within thirty days and export in CSV or XLS give us most of the reporting spine and a data processing agreement is published. We found no public information on aggregated or pseudonymised reporting, on switching off time or score tracking, or on any works council guide, works agreement template or data protection impact assessment — for our German sites that means the codetermination conversation would start from zero.

Integrations, administration & portability

iSpring LMS (iSpring Learn)

SAML 2.0, OpenID and JWT single sign-on, a REST and SOAP API, named connectors for BambooHR, OrangeHRM, Salesforce, MS Azure and MS Exchange, Zoom, Teams and Google Meet for live sessions, Shopify for storefronts, four course libraries, plus Zapier and Albato for everything else — and, decisive for us, a documented deployment on our own servers in an isolated environment controlled by our internal IT team. We found no public information on SCIM provisioning, webhooks, a public API reference with rate limits or a sandbox instance, on exporting courses back out as SCORM packages, or on documented return and deletion of all data at termination.

TalentLMS

Single sign-on via SAML 2.0, OpenID Connect and LDAP with named providers including Okta, OneLogin and Microsoft Azure AD, prebuilt connectors to four HR systems, Teams, Zoom, GoTo and BigBlueButton, Salesforce, HubSpot and Zendesk, a documented REST API with a Postman collection, Zapier access to over 1,000 apps, and export of users, progress and even courses as SCORM make both daily running and a documented exit plausible. We found no public information on SCIM provisioning, on webhooks, on published API rate limits or a sandbox, and no self-hosted or on-premise edition appears in the captured pages.

European sovereignty

iSpring LMS (iSpring Learn)

The privacy policy states that personal data of EEA, Swiss and UK customers is stored and processed on servers in Ireland and Germany with backup in Germany, a data processing agreement is offered, standard contractual clauses are used, the named hosting providers are described as ISO 27001 certified, and an on-premise edition for our own network is documented. But the terms name the contracting entity as iSpring Group FZCO, a United Arab Emirates company, with no EU entity or representative on the captured pages, the subprocessor chain is only partly named (AI features run via unnamed third-party services, Google Analytics is used on the site), and iSpring's own certifications are not published. That is workable for a cloud contract, but not sovereign end to end.

TalentLMS

The subprocessor disclosure is candid but the chain is American: cloud hosting is Amazon Web Services in N. Virginia, USA, and the named processors for AI text and image generation, email, support and integrations — Google, OpenAI, Stability.ai, Sparkpost, Zendesk, Workato — are in the USA, with Workato receiving names, emails, custom fields and completion records. An EU representative (the Greek branch of Epignosis UK Ltd), a published data processing agreement with Standard Contractual Clauses, and verification under the EU Cloud Code of Conduct are documented, but we found no public information on EU hosting or a European contracting option, so our learners' records would run through a US chain with contractual safeguards.

Pricing transparency

iSpring LMS (iSpring Learn)

The Business tier is public and unusually clear about the unit: pay only for active users, defined as having logged in at least once during a month, at "€6.61 per user/month" and "€7,936 per 100 users/year", with 300- and 500-user bands also published, unlimited registered users, unlimited administrators and storage, and a 30-day trial with no credit card. But single sign-on, the white-label mobile app and the self-hosted deployment sit in the Enterprise tier at "Get a custom quote", and we found no public information on implementation fees, minimum term or VAT treatment beyond a referenced sales tax policy — so I cannot compute our real annual cost from the public pages alone.

TalentLMS

Three plans are publicly priced with user bands, branch counts and feature inclusions — Core at $ 119 /month ($1,428/yr) for 1-40 users, Grow at $ 229 /month ($2,748/yr) for 1-70, Pro at $ 449 /month ($5,388/yr) for 1-100 — a free account needs no credit card, and the terms state fees are exclusive of value added tax and carry an automatic five percent annual increase. Above 100 users everything becomes a sales conversation — Enterprise "Starts at 1000 users" with "Contact sales" — and we found no public information on the price of the TalentLibrary add-on, the TalentHR bundle or the flexible user limit, so for my 1,400 people I cannot compute an annual cost from public pages alone.
