The short answer

The benches split by criterion. Teamtailor leads candidate pipeline (4.0 to Recruitee's 2.2; six judges lean Teamtailor and zero lean Recruitee), applicant data governance (4.2 to 2.7; six lean Teamtailor), job distribution (3.5 to 3.0; three lean Teamtailor, three tie) and AI screening control (1.7 to 1.0; four lean Teamtailor, one Recruitee, one tie). Recruitee takes sovereignty (4.7 to 3.3; six judges lean Recruitee and zero lean Teamtailor): its privacy policy commits that Tellent will never transfer processor data outside the EU unless the customer instructs it, and data residency is EU-only against Teamtailor's EU-optional. Integrations and handover read 4.2 to 4.0, one lean Recruitee, five ties; pricing transparency 2.2 to 1.5, three leans Recruitee, three ties, with pricing not weighted into either verdict since neither vendor publishes numeric prices. Weighted totals: Teamtailor 3.2 to 1.9 on the works-council bench, narrowest at 3 to 2.9 for the data protection officer.

Choose Recruitee if

  • You need processor data to stay in the EU: Recruitee's data residency is listed as EU-only, and its privacy policy commits that Tellent will never transfer processor data outside the EU unless the customer instructs it — six judges lean Recruitee on sovereignty, zero lean Teamtailor.
  • You sign in Germany, Austria or Switzerland: Recruitee GmbH in Düsseldorf contracts for customers in those countries.
  • Your team will connect the ATS to surrounding HR systems: Recruitee leads integrations and handover 4.2 to 4.0 (one judge leans Recruitee, five tie), with API, webhooks, e-signed offer letters and HRIS integrations stated publicly.
  • Your purchase weights data-location guarantees above candidate-facing workflow: the table has Recruitee ahead on sovereignty 4.7 to 3.3 and behind on candidate pipeline 2.2 to 4.0, so the leans favor Recruitee when sovereignty drives the decision.
  • Your process scores pricing transparency: three judges lean Recruitee, zero lean Teamtailor, with three ties.

Choose Teamtailor if

  • You need the candidate-facing pipeline to carry your hiring process: Teamtailor leads candidate pipeline 4.0 to Recruitee's 2.2 — six judges lean Teamtailor, zero lean Recruitee.
  • Applicant data governance tops your scorecard: Teamtailor leads 4.2 to 2.7, six judges lean Teamtailor, zero lean Recruitee.
  • Job distribution carries weight in your evaluation: Teamtailor leads 3.5 to 3.0 — three judges lean Teamtailor, three tie.
  • Your team will use AI screening tools: Teamtailor leads AI screening control 1.7 to 1.0 — four judges lean Teamtailor, one leans Recruitee, one ties.
  • Your works-council or employer-branding bench runs the shortlist: Teamtailor's weighted totals read 3.2 to 1.9 (works council) and 3.8 to 2.8 (employer branding).

The Talent Acquisition Lead

Fills sixty roles a year across three locations with a team of two. Wants pipelines hiring managers actually use, scorecards that make a decision defensible, and multiposting that reaches the German boards without a separate login. Unmoved by a match score she cannot explain to a candidate.

Criterion by criterion

Applicant management & hiring workflow

Recruitee

The homepage sells customizable hiring software with workflow automation and collaboration, real-time custom dashboards and WhatsApp hiring, but every captured claim stays at marketing level: we found no public information on pipeline stages per job, hiring-manager permissions, structured scorecards, interview scheduling, or a history of who moved a candidate and why. I hire sixty people a year across three sites and need a decision I can defend; nothing captured evidences one.

Teamtailor

Scorecards with fixed criteria for skills and personality and configurable interview kits are exactly what makes a decision defensible, and email and SMS plus an audit log give me some traceability. But the audit log is opt-in rather than standard, and we found no public information on pipeline stages per job, hiring-manager access limited to their own vacancies, approval workflows for offers, or a per-candidate history of who moved whom.

Multiposting, career page & candidate experience

Recruitee

A career site builder, multi-channel job posting tools and a removable powered-by badge on the careers site are evidenced, so the funnel exists in name. But we found no public information on which German boards are reached, whether postings are booked from inside the system, source attribution per applicant, or a mobile application without an account — exactly what decides whether I keep a separate multiposting contract.

Teamtailor

The block-based career-site editor with multilingual pages is a genuine strength and matches their branding pitch. But for reaching German candidates we found no public information on multiposting, on any named German boards such as the Bundesagentur für Arbeit, on Google for Jobs markup, or on mobile application without an account — distribution beyond my own career page is invisible to me.

Retention, deletion & talent-pool consent

Recruitee

The privacy policy states data is kept for up to 365 days with more detail on request, lists access, erasure and portability rights with a postal route to the Data Protection Office, and the terms promise deletion and an API export window of thirty days after termination. On the employer-side machinery we found no public information on configurable automatic deletion after rejection, talent-pool consent with expiry, or a log of who viewed an applicant file.

Teamtailor

Retention periods are actually written down — prospects two years after last contact, marketing contacts three years after contract end, and in-application deletions persisting only ten days in backups — and candidates get a documented route to access, erasure and portability. The talent pool grows through candidates connecting themselves, which reads as recorded interest. We found no public information on automatic deletion after rejection on a configurable deadline, consent expiry, or candidate self-service for their own file.

AI screening transparency & control

Recruitee

An AI-powered Screening Assistant and Matching Assistant are metered by monthly credits and searches per plan, so I know they exist and how they are packaged — and nothing more: we found no public information on what they evaluate, whether they can be switched off per account, whether a human confirms every rejection, or which model provider runs them. The terms exclude IP indemnity for AI-generated content, which confirms AI is at work in the service without giving me anything I could bring to a works council.

Teamtailor

The co-pilot is marketed as a benefit and does name its jobs — talent-pool search, applicant evaluation, question suggestions, CV summaries, job-ad generation — but we found no public information on what inputs the evaluation uses, whether each feature can be switched off, which model or provider runs it, or whether candidates are told. A match score I cannot explain to a candidate or a works council is precisely what I will not buy.

HR handover, integrations & API

Recruitee

Integrations, APIs and webhooks are marketed on the homepage, digital offer letters come with eSignatures, and HRIS integrations and pre-onboarding are named as modules, with an API export window of thirty days after termination in the terms. But we found no public information naming a specific HR or payroll system used in DACH that a hire flows into without retyping, no calendar or video-interview integration, no SSO or SCIM, and no published API limits.

Teamtailor

An API, a marketplace with more than 450 integrations, SSO and e-signature on offers and onboarding documents are all stated, and e-signature alone saves me a weekly chase. But we found no public information on a named handover to HR or payroll systems common in DACH such as Personio or DATEV-connected systems, on webhooks, on SCIM, or on published API limits — so my path from hire to HR system is not visible.

European sovereignty

Recruitee

The contracting structure is genuinely European: Recruitee GmbH in Düsseldorf contracts for Germany, Austria and Switzerland, with a Dutch and a French entity for other regions, and the privacy policy commits that personal data processed for customers is never transferred outside the EU unless the customer instructs it. What caps this is the unverifiable chain: we found no public information on the hosting infrastructure, and the only subprocessors named are Sympa and a list of advertising platforms — no parsing, AI or email-delivery providers for the applicant-data chain.

Teamtailor

The contracting entity is Teamtailor AB in Stockholm under Swedish law, the data processing agreement is part of the agreement, and subprocessor categories plus transfer safeguards — adequacy decisions, standard contractual clauses, technical measures — are published. But we found no public information on where applicant data is hosted, on named infrastructure providers, or on where CV summarising and the other AI features run; for a category where every record belongs to a third party, that silence costs.

Pricing transparency

Recruitee

The commercial mechanics are public and unusually detailed — pricing per number of employees with an automatic upgrade to the next tier at then-current list prices, yearly terms renewing automatically unless notice is given ninety days in advance, fees in EUR, USD or GBP exclusive of taxes and billed thirty days in advance. But the captured pricing page shows tier names, plan descriptions and AI credit counts with euro signs and no numbers, so an annual invoice is not computable from public pages alone.

Teamtailor

Every fee sits in an Order Form; the captured pricing page tells me jobs and users are unlimited and support is included, but we found no public information on any tier price, so I cannot compute an annual cost before a sales call. What is public: annual billing in advance, VAT excluded, twelve-month auto-renewal with one month's notice, and 60 days' notice of price increases.
